SMS based monitoring

SMS based monitoring of MDM in Dhanbad district on pilot basis and its replication in other districts.

Multi taps for handwashing

Additional water point connection to school hand pumps with support of UNICEF under SSHE. In schools where number of students is very high it has been found that meal taking time is more than one hour.This has resulted in loss of instructional hour. Hence, we have provided multiple taps attached with the hand pump so that children can wash heir hand quickly.

E-transfer of funds at all levels.

The funds has been transferred through RTGS to majority all bank accounts of schools.

Rigorous monitoring system - Samikshya

Kitchen gardens

Construction of Kitchen sheds with old estimate of 60 thousand per kitchen by providing additional funds under IAP in Ranchi and some other districts.

Provide APRON to the cooks

In view of the hygienic aspects all SVSSs have been asked to provide APRON to the cooks and this has resulted tremendous inclination to take care of health and hygiene among the cooks. In all the schools of State Apron wearing has been made compulsory .Further in Ratu Block of Ranchi District Spoons have been provided to students. Students use to eat food with spoon.

Introduced Information board

Every day applications were received to furnish information under Right to Information 2005.To minimize the same we have introduced Information board in each and every school. Head teacher or Sanyojika writes the total enrolment, number of students present in the school, available food grains and fund and quantity of chawal, dal etc., to be used today.

Introduced food taste register in school

It is very important to monitor the quality of food served to the students because that is the bottom- line of this flagship programme. We have introduced food taste register in school in which on roster basis teachers use to take cooked food before it is being served to the students. Even officials of education department and Deputy Commissioner of the district use to taste the quality of the food served to students.

Bal Sansad (Child Cabinet)- Bal Sansad counts

Effective management of MDM through Bal Sansad (Child Cabinet)- Bal Sansad counts the no. of children present and informs Saraswati Vahini, monitors cleanliness by ensuring that every child washes his/her hand before taking MDM, ensures children sit in rows while taking MDM and also helps in distribution.

Popular film on Mid Day Meal for effective avocation

UNICEF in collaboration with education department of Jharkhand has developed few films on MDM. Film shows the objective of the scheme, coverage, issue of malnutrition, community participation, safety, precautions of cooking, dress code, cleanliness of Saraswat Vahini and food preparation.

Equity issues address in MDM

MDM all children sit together irrespective of their caste, culture and religion. Saraswati Vahini members who manage cooking and serving of MDM, are selected without any discrimination of caste and religion.

Dining hall

Dining hall has been constructed in 11 schools in Gumla district under Integrated Action Plan (IAP). Dining hall is being constructed in 42 upgraded middle schools at unit cost of Rs. 1.25 lakh in Latehar district under Integrated Action Plan (IAP). Taking meal in a dining hall ensures clean place of eating and inculcates a sense of togetherness.

Initiative of Co-operative Department.

Vegetable growers cooperative societies are being tagged with schools for regular supply of fresh vegetables.

SMS based monitoring

A system in Dhanbad district had been designed for real time and cost effective monitoring based on SMS reporting, online cross checking. This is also initiated on pilot basis in Koderma district. Also efforts are being made to enlarge the SMS reporting system over the state.
